30 Hours Away

Jill, Kolette and I had a nice little escape last weekend.  The Hansons let us take their truck and off we sped to Farmville, VA for a little eating, shopping and non-stop gab.  We did pretty well on directions except for about 30 u-turns (the gps was not up to par) but that was all part of the journey of course.  We stopped somewhere for Mexican food that was almost as good as school lunch, but we tried not to let it get us down.  We slept at The Comfort Inn and stayed up late reminiscing about all the boys Kolette kissed in college...so that was about a seven hour conversation (j/k Kole!).

The next morning we discovered Farmville to be a little college town with a charming feel to it. The downtown center is cute and houses a handful of old brick warehouses known as Greenfront Furniture. It's 700,000 square ft of furniture marked much lower than normal store prices--so it's definitely good prices but not dirt cheap either--since it's mostly good quality stuff.

We found lots of neat pieces but were mostly there just to look and get ideas.  I am realizing that I am more of a trash to treasure type of girl.  I find myself always saying--I would really love that... if I could paint it!  So I guess that's why the majority of the stuff in my house is found at Lucketts, Craigs list....or whatever.

The true "gold mine" of the day was the rug store.  Jill found her dream rug (below-- only MUCH smaller!) She has been looking at the Aubusson style rugs for years and ended up buying three since they were 1/4 of their normal price---soooo awesome!  I am so happy for her and the big blue one looks gorgeous in her living room.

I also had some luck.  I found lots of fabric swatches (cross my fingers) for my living room. I'm going for bright pink and green (shocker) as well as some punches of blue and gold.  I'm not sure I'll use the floral below but it's my color inspiration for the room.

The swatches don't look great in the picture, but I was happy to find so much of what I was looking for, that a snapped a quick pic of a few.

I also want a new piece for the living room.  The two below are 2,000 dollars cheaper at Greenfront than they are at a furniture store in Rockville.  I called today and couldn't believe what a price difference there was!

I love the style of this one.......

And really love the color of this one.  Decisions......

It was fast and fun--and I'd do it again tomorrow!  Thanks chicas for a super time.

Oh the fun! I am longing for one of these days!
I agree with the hutches. I like the first style better. I look forward to seeing how your room turns out.
I love the rug Jill picked. So pretty and feminine. :)

I know what you mean with the trash to treasure thing. It seems like everything I see in a store I think " I know I could find it cheaper! " ~ And I usually do.

It's always fun to look, and create, but even funner to get away, be silly, and just hang out with the girls! I'm glad you had a fun weekend!

I want that blue hutch, sure it might scuff my ceilings, but it would be worth it.

I have the rug tucked in Caroline's closet for safe keeping until I get a pad underneath it... I'm also working up the courage to lay its beautifulness on my floor.

Great post!

It sounds like you had a much deserved good time. I agree with Ann in that I like the style of the first hutch, but I love the color of the 2nd one too.

I'm waiting to see what your going to do with all the fabric in your house. I loved the samples, and you are so creative that I'm sure it'll turn out awesome.
