Fabulous Fortnight

Oh beautiful night

I am

under

your

spell...

Two weeks ago today, it was snowing like crazy here. It was one of the best days of my whole year. We made three kinds of cookies, had a gorgeous, crackling fire and relished the idea of being snowed in. Jayne and Jon braved it (he's from Cedar Hills after all) and hiked up from the road--we were thrilled for the company. Late that night Nick and I bundled up and walked to Jills house to surprise them. It was magical without a soul in sight, flawless, white streets and snow lightly falling. I hadn't seen a night so beautiful since my freshman year in college when the boys sent Jill and I out to fetch something late one night. The streets were warmly glowing from all the whiteness, so much so that I've never forgotten that strikingly beautiful, still night. This one felt the same and I have a feeling I'll never forget it either. The best thing about winter here is when the snow starts the world stops. Church was canceled the next morning, and school ended up being closed all week so we got the two week Christmas vacation we're supposed to have every year. Monday brings it all to a screeching halt but it's been a fantastic fortnight for sure.

And our 2nd WHITE christmas together! They come far and few, but this year definitely takes the cake. What a memorable winter break.

Thanks for sharing. There is something magical about quiet snow. I remember it a lot when I walked through Brookside as a kid. Also, on a few Christmas Eves when grandpa was working, mom would take John and I to the movies. It was magical being out at night as a little kid with new snow waiting for Santa.
