Day 2: Yorktown

Go get 'em soldier!  I swear it must be an innate instinct or something, but give a boy a sword or a pistol--and they'll be happy forever.  The last place we went was Yorktown then onto the Yorktown Victory Center which is where the deal was sealed if you know what I mean.  It was really cool visiting the actual battlefield where Cornwallis surrendered to Washington.  Some of the actually trenches and redoubts are still there.

If you don't know what a redoubt is you can find out here.  I happen to know what one is because I listened to the lectures on the bus.  Chief had each of us (kids included) come prepared to talk about two or three different historic people or things.  Redoubt was one of them.  The kids especially loved standing up on the bus and giving their little reports; it was fun and memorable.

I feel so lucky to have my kids growing up with cousins.  They are all the best of friends. Even the two teenagers on the trip, Eric and Jamie were awesome to be with.  They are always so nice and cute with the littler ones.  I feel so fortunate to have grown up with some of my cousins, and really love them all--so it's wonderful to see my kids having the same experience.

The way back was as easy as can be.  We ate pizza and salad, put a movie in for the kids and watched them get glassy-eyed and begin to fade.

Thanks Chief for a super memorable weekend--you're one heckuva a good guy!
