2nd Generation
This handsome little wonder is the 2nd oldest cousin. He was the baby under the witch costume getting nursed, year two. Back in the day, every last piece of the family worked, whether they were nursing, nine months pregnant or tackling two full-time jobs during the day. Didn't matter, everyone pitched in. Not much has changed-- 'cept now the babies are runnin' the show.
These shirts are hot commodities and quite a status symbol. This is the first year Nicholas and Jack are "officially" working.
They spent two full days building "their" scene on Trail 2 and have worked it successfully three nights.
Nothing beats seeing him stumble in past midnight with hoarse voice and smudgy face--dishing out a tired run-down of an exhilarating evening, then staggering to bed, make-up and all. Some would call it cruel..but we think it's
cool! This year the girls figured they deserved a piece of the action. School girls by day, haunting hags by night....
The girl in charge of costumes and make-up is fantastic. She has an entire studio in the bottom of the barn filled with costumes, scabs, props, masks, blood and every crazy contact lens you can imagine. Needless to say, she was happy to indulge our little chicks on opening night.
Not everyone left painted and happy. "I'm old enough to work! I built the Haunted Fowest!" Well, he kinda did. It's called last year's preschool.
What can I say? They love it. It's in their bones......

It's in their bones! so funny
It will take a lot to scare these guys after all their behind-the-scenes work.
Who on earth is that last child? I've definitely never see that one. Just goes to show that it's been too long since i've been there. Those kids are gonna have the best memories i tell ya. I for sure am going to move there just so my kids will have the sick memories your chitlins will have. Cruel?.....i think NOT!!
Mitch. Alex's 4th......
Isn't it funny that of all the posts, this one makes me teary. I love all these kids and am so thankful that I have been able to see them grow up and become ghouls, just like their folks. My kids have good friends, just like I do.
I remember Jamie running around giving kisses in the snow in his diaper. It is funny in life what keeps you together and builds relationships. Dressing up and scaring people to death is a big one around here.
For all you readers in Utah, this is a great family tradition. Kids LOVE to see their parents a little scared and anxious. My kids have been going through since birth. Go to the Dreaded Grove or one of the other Haunted Houses etc. Utah is FULL of them. Where do you think the Markoff's got the idea in the first place?
Great post Jen. Are you going to have your kids wear masks from now on? Just kidding. You know Ich Liebe Dich.
OK, I am a little freaked out by this tradition you have going on. BUT! I love that your family has fun doing it. It really has inspired me to have more fun with my kids and I thank you for that. :o)
What a great post!!! Those kids are SO cute and you know that they're having the time of their lives!
It is all about traditions and I think you guys have a great tradition!! The 2nd oldest cousin looks alot like your boys. I had to take a double look for a minute.
Went through the haunted portion of the corn maze and laughed my rear off. Not scary at all! Had a great time watching the girls scream though. But I can say that going to Haunted Houses when I was younger was one of my favorite things to do in October!! How cool to actually work at one! -Suzanne
very cool pics. The make-up is great. They sure have come along way over the years, It looks so good out there. I can't wait to go with all the girls.
So fun! The kid's costumes look great. I think little boy needs one though, he deserves it! Hopefully I will get a part next year.... I'll be the Money Launderer (sp)
Fun post.
I'm guessing you never have to buy Halloween costumes, or do any make-up? You are soo lucky. -- Very jealous.
At least the poor little sad guy of yours will have something to look forward to when he turns the age to be "part" of the fun at the forest.. :)
The kids look so good in their make-up & costumes! And the memories will last forever. What a fun thing to do every year. Your kids will pass it on to their kids & it'll get bigger & bigger each year too. Neat stuff!
