Ommmmmm...........Ommmmm....

Does anyone care that tomorrow I am signing up at a gym for the first time in my life?  I'm pretty excited.  Now don't forget I did join Curves a while back, but I'm not sure that qualifies. Jill and I gave that a sorry attempt but ended up gettin out after a few.... So the main reason I'm going is for the yoga and maybe a little pilates. I want to tone up and wonder if those two will do it.  Anybody have an answer to this?  Nick seems to believe you can't tone without weights...though I don't think he's really ever lifted weights or done yoga (at least out of the closet)...so not sure he's an expert on this topic.  I just want the jiggle gone.

If you want to die, do spin class. They will work you to death; But in a good way. Nick is right to an extent. You DO have to have some weight. Not just your own body weight. Most classes, like the ones kelley does, use light weight and make you sweat big time. Yoga tones for sure. Not as quickly as you'd probably like though. In order to shed them asap you'll have to push it with both cardio and some light weight. Ask Kelley, she's the expert.

Jen-
I'm pretty sure there is nothing on you that jiggles. Pictures usually add pounds, and you are soo skinny in pictures.

Do you have a wii? It has killer Yoga.. If you have that game system, you may want to try it.

Sad to say that I have heard weights do wonders too..

First of all, You Jiggle? Mmm.....whatever! My husband had the same thoughts about Pilates and Yoga and he took a Pilates class last fall for school and his butt was kicked. It is tougher than what people think it is. Why I don't do Pilates or Yoga is that I hate pain for long periods of time. You hold positions for what seems like FOREVER and I hate that. I least in weight lifting you lift and then release, pain and relief.

My vote, if the Pilates or Yoga class intrigues you then by all means DO IT!! It is extremely healthy and you will be amazed with how you feel.

As for this "jiggle" theory, honestly that comes down to diet, cardio and weight lifting. Good Luck! -Suzanne

J-mark,

Pilates dramatically transforms the way your body looks, feels and performs. It builds strength without excess bulk, creating a sleek, toned body with slender thighs and a flat abdomen.

Yoga is really about creating balance in the body through developing both strength and flexibility. This is done through the performance of poses or postures, each of which has specific physical benefits.

Sounds like Pilates would be better suited to help you meet your physical fitness objectives.

For me, both are yawnathons. Bottom line: there are many ways to skin a cat (or a kissable dead mouse found in the back yard, or any other animal really). So choose a program that interests you enough to keep you coming back. Good luck to you.

I used to think that yoga was a wimpy, girly, hippy, sort of thing to do. Then I tried it. It kicked my trash. This made it hard to make myself finish the video when I was at home, and I was so bad it was a bit embarrassing the few times I sat in on a class elsewhere. I did find out one thing though: yoga isn't wimpy, I am!

SHOUT OUT TO JAYNE. JAYNE HAD A KICKEN BODY WHEN SHE WAS DOING YOGA. I WAS REALLY REALLY JEALOUS. AND JENNIFER ANISTON LOOKED AMAZING YEARS AGO ON OPRAH AND SHE SAID IT WAS YOGA, AND I BELIEVE EVERYTHING HOLLYWOOD HAS TO SAY!

Not the expert on toning by any means, but your stint with Curves reminded me of mine. I tried it for about a month, as well. It was the most uninspiring atmosphere, though. I need my music. Loud. They played some pretty lame tunes and my workout comrades were sweet as could be, just all about 90 yrs old.

Yoga 3 to 4 times a week = Wicked results. That is all I have to say about that...

After doing yoga, and seeing what it did to my body and FAST (sorry Mitch) I will never lift another weight or do anything else. If I want toned, long, lean muscles... its yoga 100%

I can hear the Rocky theme music in my head.

I got an incredible deal for my 24 hour fitness membership on eBay.

Forget about a gym - you should really do a boot camp. That will keep you motivated and get you fit!
