Thumbs Up

After reading about a bazillion reviews, I realize this is a LOVE or HATE movie.  As for me, I loved it.  I don't mind slow and thought provoking, in fact it's my first choice; I prefer films that are layered with meaning.  I would definitely give it a look. I thought the message was beautiful and touching and that Will Smith ain't bad on the eyes neitha!  I don't have the brainpower to give you all my reasons why, but check it out....I'd like to know what YOU think.

Anybody seen this?
Thumbs up or down?

Thanks for your review. I really have had no desire to see this movie, but after your and my aunts review, I just might have too. I've heard the same thing as what you said-it's either a movie you love or hate.

Thanks for sharing!

I liked this movie. He's so good in everything he does...except for Hancock, that had great potential but it ended up SOOOOOOOOOOOO stupid!!

I fell asleep, but I was nine months prego and we started it at 11:00pm and I was in a reclining chair. I will have to try again.

Glad to hear your review.. because the only other review I heard was a hater... I don't mind slow movies either.. But then again, I'm not one to really do reviews because I'm more exited for The Proposal than Harry Potter.. I'm just a chick-flick girl.

PS: Thanks for the PITY comment yesterday.. :) ha-ha.. Don't feel like you ever have to comment.. It's just nice to know your still around sometimes.. :)

Thanks for your "Thumbs Up" review. I too heard only the bad ones. But you, Tyler and Carey loved it so I will put it on my Netflix list. How about Benjamin Button? Have you seen it? I got interested when I found out it was based on F. Scott Fitzgerald. Let me know. Nancy

P. S. I loved, loved. loved Australia. I bought it, watched it (for the 3rd time) and turned around and watched it again.

Good movie. Would never watch it again but it was good the first time around. Super slow moving that's for sure. Jenni was crying by the first scene. Haha. Not too shabby though.

Aunt Nancy, benjamin button is incredibly slow as well. Good movie, but i wish i would have waited to watch it on DVD so that i could break it up into two parts. 3 hours is just too much. But then again, if you watched Australia 500 times then i'm sure you can handle it. Australia bout put me into a coma it was so unexpectedly long. Good movie though.

This is for Mitch. Thanks for the heads up on Benjamin. I will get that one going. Nice to connect with you, nephew. I only live in American Fork on a river with a forrest. Call me and come visit 801-472-5990. I love you even though I never see you. Aunt Nancy

By the way, I am a movie freak so watching Australia 500 times isn't too far fetched. I just watch As Good as It Gets for the 499. But then, I have no LIFE.

Aunt Nancy, I've watched BBC's Pride and Prejudice (bits and pieces) at least 1000 times, now I know where I get it!

NANC!!!! As Good as it Gets is one of my ALL TIME FAVS!!! I swear I love that movie so much.

I can vouch for Jill and the 1000x.
It's on every time I go over....performing happily to an empty room.

Hi Jennifer! I love reading your blog--but always just lurking I guess.
I really liked the pace and the thought-provoking nature of the movie. I would have said I liked the movie as a whole after it was over, but by the next morning, I felt that it was more of a cop out to see his life only in those very limited terms and not look at the huge amounts of good he could do over a whole lifetime if he chose another route. I didn't love or hate it I guess.
On the subject of movies and BBC--anyone who loves BBC Pride and Prejudice should watch BBC's North and South. It is about the North and South of England in the 19th century. A lot like Pride and Prejudice, but dare I say, better in a lot of ways. Seriously.

whoa! Hey Teresa! Great to hear from you! Gosh, I haven't seen you since you were probably 12..crazy.
I loved North and South as well...even did a post on it a few months back. Hope to hear from you often. ; )

Sorry--I guess that was my pre-lurking days. Glad to meet another North and South fan! I am half way through the book now--such a great story and Gaskell is an amazing writer!

Depends who you watch it with. I saw it with my Dad.... he being a doctor started listing off all the reasons why the whole jelly fish scene is a farce. Hard to enjoy a movie when you're watching it with someone skeptical.

I still liked it. I thought his acts of selflessness was very moving. But it made me sad that he couldn't forgive himself and move on. The whole love story was so touching and I guess it made more sense why he had to do it.

Jill. We can blame Grandma May for the movie freak in us. When she was pregnant with me, she went to the movies at least three times a week while Grandpa worked out of town. I guess I knew Clark Gable's voice before I knew any of my relatives. What can I say? I too love Pride and Prejudice. Something about Colin Furth diving into the lake (pond?) that gets me every time. I also like the recent BBC version. It is REALLY good. A little different from the 5 hour A & E. I highly recommend it. Has anyone seen The Visitor? I hear it is good also. To be continued....

How sad is this that I had no idea that Will Smith came out with this movie. I have no clue what it is about, and not sure if I will see it! I did like his film....crap what was it called? Had Happy in the title? Crap, uh yeah, seriously I am so out of the loop. -Suzanne

I didn't really like it. It was too predictable.

Ok so I just watched this a couple days ago, I really enjoyed it and I also love movies that make me think...I only had one problem... at the end of the movie I felt like the story was incomplete, I wish that there was more of will smith's character's thoughts and emotions and how doing what he was doing would make amends for the accident... or if he felt responsible, etc. etc.
a little more introspective commentary
