Diggin' Out,
Diggin' In

Nick, being the boy scout, redneck, outdoorsman, camper-type, paranoid schizophrenic that he is, thought ahead and parked the skid loader at our house the day before it snowed.

Ice my ride

He spent most of Sunday playing "do-gooder" and digging neighbors and strays out of their snowy quarters. It was sun-shiny and freezing so I did what this good wife has never done:

Made bread.

I dug down deep, and did it...for the first time. Ever. I was determined not to fail so I did the yeast thing three times, and it worked. I was so proud of myself. Since Nick has begged me for our whole marriage (17 years last Saturday) I expected legitimate tears and a good forty-five minutes of woman-worship once he smelled the foreign (yet familiar) aroma. He looked around the kitchen, spied the bread on the stove, and said, "Oh, you made bread" with about as much astonishment as if he'd seen me pour milk on my cereal (not being harsh, just reporting facts). Albeit, he was frozen and his lips could barely move, but seriously... he could've at least picked me up and spun me around a few times.

Seventeen years with no bread.
It's gonna be a good year.

Jennifer!!

I almost shed a tear seeing your post!! You made bread? You made bread!!! I have actually never made bread before. I have made cinnamon roll dough, but I am scared to death to make bread by myself. You need a gold star, or something special for such efforts. Happy Anniversary btw!

I got a great giggle out of seeing your ride! Really? that is what you drive? It's AWESOME!!

Well done to Nick for saving the day. I am sure there were a lot of people that were extremely grateful for his service. He can have a slice of your bread. haha!

Hope all is well with you and your sisters. Tell them I said hello and I send my positive vibes your way! -Suzanne

I would say that this was a good Sabbath in every way. Aunt Nancy P.S. I can almost smell the bread.

I just LOVE the way you write. You can take the simplest thing to write about and the way you word it,it really could be an article in a magazine!! You are SO talented.

That is such a blessing to be married to a "Do-Gooder". I feel blessed in that area as well.

What a wonderful day you had...hubby helping people and you being a great homemaker making bread. I'm SO proud of you and your bread looks absolutely delicious!! I bet your bread didn't last long with 6 people in the house. I hope you enjoyed making it and I hope that 2010 brings LOTS of bread making for you!!

Congratulations on 17 years!! Isn't being married to your best friend a wonderful thing! I was curious how long you had been married. It looks like we're about 2-1/2 years apart as far as anniversaries.

Thanks for making me smile today with your post! I hope you have a wonderful Sunday and an even better week!
